Tabyport is a Chrome extension that lets you send a group of browser tabs (a "workspace") from one of your devices to another. This policy explains what data Tabyport handles, why, where it is stored, how long it is kept, and how to have it deleted.

Data we collect

Data When it is collected Why
Username When you set up the extension To link your devices together. You choose it; it does not need to be your real name.
Device name When you set up the extension So you can recognise and choose a device, for example "Laptop".
Device ID Generated on first use A random identifier that tells your devices apart. It is not derived from your hardware.
Last-seen time About every 30 seconds while Chrome is running To show whether each of your devices is online or offline.
Workspace name, tab URLs and tab titles Only when you click Send To deliver the workspace to the device you chose.
Workspace status and timestamps When a workspace is sent, received, opened or dismissed To show waiting workspaces, and to avoid opening the same workspace twice.

Only web pages (http and https addresses) from the current window are included in a workspace. Browser pages such as chrome:// settings are skipped.

How the extension uses Chrome permissions

Tabs from a workspace are only opened when you click Open Workspace. Tabyport never opens tabs on its own.

How we use your data

Data is used only to provide Tabyport's single purpose: sending workspaces between your devices. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or any purpose unrelated to that feature, and we do not sell it.

The use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Where your data is stored

On the Tabyport server

Your username, device names, device IDs, last-seen times and workspaces are stored in a database run by the service's hosting provider. These providers store the data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

On your device

The extension keeps its settings in Chrome's local extension storage: your device ID, username, device name, a copy of workspaces waiting for this device, and the IDs of workspaces it has already opened or notified you about. This data is removed when you uninstall the extension.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade your data. It is not shared with third parties except the hosting and database providers that run the service, or where the law requires us to disclose it.

How long we keep data

Security

Tabyport does not have passwords or login yet. Your devices are linked only by your username. This means someone who knows or guesses your username could see the names of your devices, send workspaces to them, and see workspaces that are waiting to be opened on them.

Please choose a username that is hard to guess, and do not send tabs whose addresses contain private information, such as links with access tokens or personal details.

Data sent between the extension and the Tabyport server travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. We will update this policy when stronger protection, such as device sign-in, is added.

Your choices and rights

Children

Tabyport is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
